Primary Schools EFL #KidsCup

On the 25th January, 240 local primary school children aged under 11 participated in our EFL Kids Cup tournament held at the University of Exeter.

30 teams representing 24 schools from across Devon played in 6 a-side matches competing against each other with the aim of winning through to get the opportunity to represent Exeter in the next stage. The morning session saw all teams play in group stages with those who won the most games progressing into the finals stages in the afternoon.

Ottery St Mary primary school, who topped their group stage, came out triumphant in the final after beating Whipton 3-0 . For winning the competition Ottery will represent Exeter City in the regional finals, travelling with one of CITY Community Trust staff to play other teams in the southern region. If they win through and get past that stage, a once in a lifetime opportunity of playing at Wembley stadium in May awaits.

Stuart Davies, Programme Development Manager at City Community Trust, was impressed by the quality of football produced by the youngsters and the team spirt and commitment shown by all players and staff.

“I was really impressed with the high standard of football,” said Stuart. “Every player conducted themselves in a great and positive manner. Players were enthusiastic and ambitious in their play and style of football. School staff were incredibly supportive and we thank them for their continued support and commitment"

Exeter City FC academy coaches Dan Kelly and Bradley Miller were also in attendance to see some fantastic individual and team play.
