Running success in Cranbrook!

Posted on September 7th 2018 by

Over 100 people gathered in Cranbrook on Sunday, September 2 for a hugely successful 5km race and fun run.

With 101 people finishing the 5K race, running fever truly hit the East Devon town, as masses of people also took part in the fun run.

Matt Rowett, from Exeter College who played a hand in the organisation of the day, said it was “incredibly humbling" to see so many people turn up and take part.

The event, which precedes our Halloween Fun Run and our annual Santa Run, saw people travel from far and wide to take part. Something which pleased Matt a great deal.

He said: “I understand we even had someone from as far away as Luton. The organisation of the event is something that I thoroughly enjoyed. It provided the opportunity to establish an event that will have longevity for the community and to forge links with local partners and sponsors and to support a charity based on our doorstep.”

Matt also felt that these events can bring about a number of social benefits and improve community spirit amongst residents.

He continued: “The main thing I feel the event provided was a showcase of the town itself.  All too often Cranbrook’s negatives have been reported on.

“As residents, we are aware of them just like in any town or city. This event highlighted the amazing community spirit that is at the forefront of the town’s ethos. In addition, we were also able to show off the amazing country park. There aren’t many towns fortunate enough to have the outstanding outdoor spaces like we do in Cranbrook.”

If you missed out on the Cranbrook event, then don’t worry because CCT have more running events on the way! We have our Halloween running event as well as our Santa Run to come this year.

Also, if you want to test yourself even more, keep in touch to find out about our half-marathon, marathon and Granite Way events which will take place in 2019!
