Exeter City under-16s deaf team receive donations ahead of FA People's Cup

Posted on April 26th 2019 by

Exeter CITY Community Trust would like to thank the Exeter City Supporters’ Trust and the Exeter Deaf Academy for their monetary donations towards the Exeter City Deaf under-16s team.

For a number of years, the Supporters’ Trust have been a great supporter of the work we as a charity do within the community, and they recently sponsored the Exeter City ladies match at St James Park this season, as well as now donating to the Youth Deaf side.

As a charity we also work alongside the Exeter Deaf Academy, and we thank them for their support towards the team.

The under-16s team have qualified for the finals of the country’s largest and most inclusive small-sided competition, The FA People’s Cup.  It welcomes male, female and disability players across 15 categories - ranging from 11+ through to veterans (over 35s). This year’s competition saw over 4000 teams compete at 240+ venues around the country as the first round kicked-off in February.

Category winners from across the country will now compete at the national football centre – St. George’s Park this weekend. The money donated by the Trust and the Academy will go a long way to support the team towards travel and accommodation and means Exeter City FC will be represented at the prestigious national grassroots competition

CITY Community Trust’s disability officer, Will Allan, said: “We’re extremely grateful to Exeter City Supporters’ Trust and the Exeter Deaf Academy for their support.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for this group of young players to experience playing at St Georges Park, the home of England’s national football teams.”

The finals will have extensive coverage from the BBC and games will be livestreamed on the BBC Sport Get Inspired website.

The Finals follow a format of group games leading to a knockout phase to crown the winners of the FA People's Cup 2019. The semi-finals and finals will be played on the indoor 3G Sir Alf Ramsey Pitch, streamed live nationally by the BBC.

Exeter City Deaf compete in the Youth Disability Mixed (11 to 16) category on Saturday 27th April

Everyone at CITY Community Trust would like to wish the team the best of luck!
