Lord Mayor's charity catch up and thanks to local businesses following NCS success

Posted on August 23rd 2019 by

If you missed our programme article from last Saturday's match with Swindon Town in Exeter City Football Club's match day programme, then catch up with everything we've been doing recently.

Back in May we were delighted to be named as the Lord Mayor’s charity of the year. This means that the Lord Mayor will host and attend a number of events throughout the year in order to help raise money for us, as Exeter’s leading health and wellbeing charity.

We’re honoured to have been given this opportunity and we believe the partnership has been a successful one thus far. As part of our relationship with the Lord Mayor we’ve been hosting coffee mornings once a month at the Exeter Guildhall and we’ve been pleased to see lots of members of the local community attend. We’ve got four more coffee mornings planned and we’d be delighted to see as many of you as possible pop in for a coffee and cake if you’re in the city centre.

Jamie Vittles, chief executive of CITY Community Trust, said: “We are delighted to have been selected as the Lord Mayor’s charity for the coming year. His support will enable us to reach even more people across the Exeter area and continue to deliver our vital services.

“We are incredibly grateful for this support and look forward to working closely with the Lord Mayor and his staff over the next 12 months. Patronage like this is so important for us as we don’t receive any guaranteed core funding and rely on trusts, grants and people signing up to our events and programmes to enable us to develop and deliver our huge range of activities.”

Supporting the Lord Mayor’s upcoming events is a great way of raising funds for CCT. If you’d like to get involved in any of the events whether it’s baking, volunteering or donating to raffle prizes, please get in touch – cctbusiness@ecfc.co.uk

THANKS TO THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY WITHIN EXETER

The Exeter business community has once again been hugely supportive of the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme which we deliver in the city.

For just £50 young people, who are aged between 15 and 17, have signed up in numbers to the programme, which includes a week in Cornwall, life skills classes at Bicton College and in the final two weeks, the planning and delivery of a social action project.

Danny Harris, of CITY Community Trust, who oversees the programme, said business support was vital to its the success. He said: “We are incredibly lucky in Exeter to have a business community which is hugely supportive of both the work the charity does in the community and more specifically, in this case, the support it gives to the NCS programme.

Companies supporting this part of the programme included Meridian Business Support, Sarah West Recruitment, Jay’s Aim, CEDA BisNet, Northcott Theatre, McQueenie Mulholland and Santander. We’d also like to add an extended thanks to the Lord Mayor for his attendance and feedback at the events where we witnessed lots of young people come up with creative and inspiring projects.

Paula Thompson from the Exeter branch of Meridian Business Support presented two days of employability workshops to the young people.

She said: “The workshops encouraged the participants to identify skills that they have gained from the NCS programme and other activities, which can assist them in their future careers. Meridian were delighted to support the NCS programme and look forward to further involvement in the future.”
