Following our initial open trial session on Thursday 30th March, the Girls Development Centre ran as a pilot programme from mid-April to late June 2017 to create a platform to test logistics and gain feedback moving forward to the 2017-18 season from September onwards.
Following on from our successful pilot program last season, we are back for our first full season. The Girls Development Centre will run from September through to April, along side the academic year. We are looking to continue the impressive start we have had with the Development Centre and look to continue to inspire more girls to get involved, our numbers this season have increased which is testament to the how well the pilot scheme ran.
Our aim is help develop talent progress from Girls football in to Ladies football, our links with Exeter City Ladies FC provides this, graduate from the development centre is girls under 16s right back, Becky Rowe. Who has gone on to sign for and has become a permanent fixture within the Exeter City Ladies Team.
With a very talented U16 squad, most of the girls will graduate and be looking for Ladies football next season, the future looks bright for them!
Donna Langdon, Women and Girls Development Coordinator at Exeter City Football in Community said, ‘We recognise the outstanding work of local youth clubs, and aim for the centre to support and expand upon their hard work. The centre provides an excellent opportunity to further develop players, and aid the number of girls transitioning through to regular engagement within women’s football.’
